Nickel allergy prevention

For those of us who have no nickel allergy, avoid wearing jewelry that contains nickel to stop it ever occurring. However once you have a nickel allergy, it's best to avoid all contact wherever possible.

However, it's not always easy to avoid nickel because it's present in so many products and is sometimes even in products labeled hypoallergenic.

Only wear hypo-allergenic jewelry

Jewelry made from the following are generally safe to wear. Nickel-free stainless steel, surgical-grade stainless steel, titanium, 18-karat yellow gold, or nickel-free 14-karat yellow gold, sterling silver, copper and platinum. Avoid all jewelry with nickel, as well as white gold and cobalt. They may contain nickel and could cause an allergic reaction.

Please note: Surgical-grade stainless steel may contain some nickel, but it is considered nickel safe for the majority of people.

Don't wear jewelry that contains nickel or has ever caused you to experience a nickel rash. Be sure that your earring backs  are made of hypoallergenic materials.
